Swirling clouds at the north pole of Saturn (NASA)

This fantastic swirl of clouds at the Saturn’s north pole has been photographed by the Cassini spacecraft on November 27, 2012. The camera was pointing toward Saturn at approximately 224,618 miles (361,488 kilometers) away, and the image was taken using the P0 and CB2 filters. This image has not been validated or calibrated. A validated/calibrated image will be archived with the NASA Planetary Data System in 2013.

The north pole of Saturn is also known to exhibit an unusual hexagonal cloud system that is still being studied by planetary scientists.
